Abstract: Based on 3D spectroscopic data of M32 in the range ∼8400–8900Å, we present the first reliable gradient of the calcium triplet (CaT) beyond one effective radius (Reff). Assuming the age–metallicity gradients inferred from optical spectra in previous work on M32, SSP models for the CaT predict a variation with radius that is qualitatively consistent with our observations. However, the CaT in M32 seems to be larger than predicted by the models, contrary to the low CaT values exhibited by massive ellipticals.
