Abstract: I present an extension of Zel'dovich approximation, which is exact in a variety of situations including planar, cylindrical, and spherical collapse. This extension, which I call the complete Zel'dovich approximation (CZA), is exact to second order at an arbitrary point and highly accurate to third order. I have used it to obtain the statistical properties of the nonlinear mass density field, with results that are exact to fourth order in the variance and very accurate to all orders. I explain why spherical and ellipsoidal collapse give a good approximation, even at points lacking these symmetries.
