Abstract: We provide a review of the progress made in mapping out the stellar mass-luminosity relation over more than two decades. The 2004 version of the mass-luminosity relation spans stellar masses spanning the range of 0.07 to 33 Solar masses. Special emphasis is given to the red dwarfs, which comprise roughly half of the Galaxy's stellar mass even though they have the lowest stellar masses.
