Abstract: The evolution of AE Aquarii has been utilized to constrain the surface polar magnetic field of the secondary star to values between B0 ~ 1000 − 2000 G. It has been shown that surface magnetic field of the secondary star, in the vicinity of the L1 point, can be advected with the mass flow, if the ratio of the magnetic Reynolds and Hartmann numbers in the flow is less than unity. This implies that magnetic field BL1 < 250 G can be advected with the flow, resulting in a fraction of the mass transfer to contain substantial frozen-in magnetic flux. The presence of magnetized blobs in the mass flow may result in particle acceleration and non-thermal emission as a result of the interaction with the fast rotating magnetic field. This may be the origin of the expanding synchrotron emitting plasmoids and the resultant non-thermal emission from 1 GHz to mid-infrared frequencies.
