Abstract: We use spectra of massive stars located in the Magellanic Clouds and the Milky Way to determine the effect of metallicity on the wind of O stars. The P-Cygni profiles of C iv lambda1550 and Si iv lambda1400 vary strongly as a function of metallicity. The SMC stars have smaller absorption than the LMC and galactic stars of the same spectral type. The terminal velocity of the main sequence stars shows a lower value for lower metallicity stars. The giants and supergiants do not follow any trend, possibly due to the saturation of the line profile. These observations have important consequences on evolution model of O stars and imply that the age and IMF determined for young starbursts based on the UV spectra should take into account the metallicity.
