Abstract: We discuss characteristics of the numerous substellar companions which have been detected to date by radial velocity surveys. Observable orbital parameters such as the period, eccentricity, and minimum companion mass, when taken together are valuable in characterizing the companions. In particular, these parameters allow for potentially meaningful separations between populations of stars, brown dwarfs, and planets.
