Abstract: We report the results of a complete spatio-kinematical study of the hypersonic knots and bright core of the Engraved Hourglass planetary nebula, MyCn18, using the Manchester echelle spectrometer combined with 3.9m Anglo-Australian telescope. A continuum subtracted image reveals the knots to be confined to within &#x221310''of the bipolar axis of the nebula. The relative radial velocity of the knots versus their apparent angular distance from the star is plotted for this complete sample. A nova-like explosive event in the core of MyCn18 is suggested as a possible mechanism for generating these remarkable knots.
