Abstract: The Submillimeter Array is a collaboration between the Smithsonian Astrophysical Observatory and the Institute of Astronomy and Astrophysics in Taiwan. A total of eight elements will be constructed on Mauna Kea. Two major milestones were the detection of first fringes on Saturn at 230 GHz in October of last year using the first two telescopes at Westford, Massachusetts, and the arrival of the first mount on Mauna Kea in April of this year. The first reflector is currently being assembled on Mauna Kea, and the second mount is due to arrive in July. The next milestones will be first fringes on Mauna Kea, which we are aiming to achieve by the end of September of this year, and the arrival of the next two elements from Taiwan as well as the fifth element from Massachusetts, which are planned for the beginning of next year. We will report on the latest developments at the meeting.
