Abstract: In this paper the history of the radio study of P Cygni is summarized, concentrating on the observations rather than detailed physical modelling. P Cygni has been observed with radio arrays and single dishes on-and-off over the years. Its emission conforms largely to the model of a thermal free-free wind, with the addition of fainter extended nebulosity. Observations of increasing spatial resolution and sensitivity have revealed that the wind and circumstellar environment are variable and inhomogeneous.
