Abstract: The Internet has changed astronomy. It’s changed research, outreach and education and it’s changed how people consume astronomy as enthusiasts. People have new ways to talk to each other and new ways to participate. Coined “Web 2.0,” technologies such as blogs, social networks, wikis, photo and video sharing sites, podcasts and micro-blogging have been adopted by the astronomy community and exciting things are happening as a result. The International Year of Astronomy’s New Media Task Force has been working to harness the excitement of “Web 2.0” to make the International Year of Astronomy (IYA2009) highly visible on the Internet around the world.
