Abstract: Polarization observations of prestellar cores are compared with magnetically regulated models of star formation. A uniform field is seen, implying relatively little field tangling by turbulent effects. However, the field does not lie along the core minor axis, which indicates that the collapse has not occurred simply along uniform field lines.
