Abstract: The Cherenkov Telescope Array (CTA, http://www.cta-observatory.org/) will be an advanced facility for ground-based very high-energy γ-ray astronomy. With two sites, in both the southern and northern hemispheres, it will extend the study of astrophysical origin of γ-rays at energies from a few tens of giga-electron volts (GeV) up to hundreds of tera-eV (TeV). The southern array will allow a deep investigation of galactic sources, the central part of our Galaxy as well as of extragalactic objects. The northern array will be dedicated mainly to extragalactic studies. As such, the CTA will provide the first complete detailed view of the universe in this part of the radiation spectrum and will contribute towards a better understanding of the exotic astrophysical and cosmological processes.
