Abstract: Realistic and extreme cases of Solar System comets have been scaled to the distance of a neighbour star, to investigate the detectability of extrasolar comets. While the nuclei are not detectable, the tail could be observed in some exceptional cases. Transiting comet can cause a detectable extinction, and have already been observed with high resolution spectroscopy.
