Abstract: We have obtained broadband imaging and polarimetry of the comet 2P/Encke in the V and R filters with the FORS1 instrument of the ESO VLT, sampling the phase-angle range 4°–28°. The behavior of the linear polarization with the phase angle seems significantly different from that of other minor bodies of the solar system, which probably indicates a significant difference in the surface material properties of the bodies.
