Abstract: X-ray observations continue to provide us with an increasingly detailed picture of galaxy clusters, for which a clear interpretation of the underlying physical processes is very challenging. On the theoretical side, N-body/hydrodynamical simulations currently include models for complex baryonic physics in clusters. Hence, the best strategy would be to directly compare the outputs from such simulations to real observations, e.g. via a virtual telescope designed to produce X-ray mock observations from simulated galaxy clusters, which can be analyzed with the same procedures used for real ones. We present here a novel X-ray photon simulator based on a modular structure that makes it very versatile and allows to significantly gain in computational cost and time.
