Abstract: To simulate the pressure anisotropy of space plasmas, we extended the global magnetohydrodynamics (MHD) model BATS-R-US based on the study of MHD with anisotropic ion pressure and isotropic electron pressure under both the classical and semirelativistic approximation. We derived the characteristic wave speeds for determining time steps and calculating numerical fluxes. Simulations of the Earth's magnetosphere validated the model's ability to reproduce the pressure anisotropy in the magnetosheath.
