Abstract: Observations of the solar surface show a highly turbulent behavior of convection, and reveal coherent structures in distributed magnetic fields. We present results of realistic radiation magneto-hydrodynamics (MHD) simulations in three dimensions (3D) of the solar subsurface layers, and investigate properties of magneto-convection for various magnetic field topologies and strengths. In particular, we discuss the filamentary structure and dynamics of sunspot penumbra, spontaneous formation of pore-like and small-scale magnetic structures, and compare the simulation results with observations.
