Abstract: Recent developments at CDS led us to define and use a new method to describe regions of the sky. The major constraint is to answer in a very short time, i.e. a few milliseconds, the following question: “Does this data set intersect such or such region of the sky?” We present in this article our “MOC solution” : MOC for Multi-Order-Coverage map. It is based on a static and homogeneous description of data sets using the HEALPix sky tessellation.
