Abstract: The Earth's magnetotail is a region where magnetic energy is stored and explosively released. The release of the stored energy drives strong plasma flows, which in their turn drive various plasma instabilities. In this paper we introduce some of these instabilities and how they are measured with the four-spacecraft mission Cluster.
