Abstract: The spectral lines of methyl formate in the second torsional excited state were identified in Orion KL for the first time as well as the ground and the first torsional excited state. This identification was made it possible by the recent laboratory microwave spectroscopic study. It was found that the vibrational temperature is twice as large as the rotational temperature. The difference may be attributed to the collision with H2 and/or far infrared pumping.
