Abstract: Euclid is an ESA satellite mission to be launched in 2020. It aims at understanding the accelerating expansion of the Universe by investigating Weak gravitational Lensing and Galaxy Clustering. Euclid's Wide Survey will observe 15,000 deg2 with its two instruments, the Visible Imaging Channel (VIS) and the Near IR Spectrometer and imaging Photometer (NISP). Here we discuss the concepts and strategies to generate the catalogues with the expected 10 billion sources from the images. The large observed wavelength range (0.55-2.0 μm) requires a detection on the combined VIS and NIR data from NISP in order to collect also all VIS-only and all NIR-only objects. However, due to the large difference in the VIS and NIR resolution (0.1"/pix and 0.3"/pix) the segmentation and de-blending need to be done in the individual bands to get optimal results for all sub-populations. Of paramount importance for the Weak Lensing is the star-galaxy separation, and we present procedures to achieve the requirements in this field.
