Abstract: Hybrid simulations of reconnection can assume large scales when one is interested in the ion physics of the expansive outflow regions, or because of the fact that reconnection regions are embedded in and influence the evolution of much larger domains, such as the entire magnetosphere. A low ion beta or general demand for high resolution, in conjunction with the whistler dispersion relation, increases the computational requirements significantly. The numerical challenges, including those on models for resistivity, are discussed.
