Abstract: Interstellar hydrogen and heavier neutral atoms have access to the inner heliosphere, and they, together with secondary products after charge exchange interactions, are important messengers of the local interstellar medium and of remote heliospheric regions. This forms part of the motivation for the IBEX mission. The neutral atom populations are out of equilibrium, which warrants a kinetic modeling approach. Some of the issues of this type of modeling are detailed, including particle injection at the boundaries and improvements of particle statistics.
