Abstract: |
HiPS (Hierarchical Progressive Survey) offers a user friendly way to explore
a catalogue on the sky. The user only has to browse into the sky by zooming and panning.
All data transfers are transparently handled by the client (e.g. Aladin).
The all-sky view contains the more interesting objects with a spatial distribution
which mimics the global spatial distribution of objects.
Once the user has identified a region of interest and centered it by panning,
more objects emerged as he zooms and keep zooming.
The CDS has developed a tool to offer its users a HiPS access to its catalogues.
The tool has been made public so anyone can generate its own HiPS catalogues. |
