Abstract: |
Recent materials advances enable new optical components that are useful for solar polarimetry. These include achromatic high speed modulators using ferroelectric liquid crystals and broad wavelength achromatic retarders, sometimes called super-achromatic retarders. We also discuss newer options for beam-splitting polarizers and retarder coatings that can be patterned. Devices and components discussed use nanostructures, polymers and liquid crystals to achieve performance advantages over classical crystal polarization optics. |
