Abstract: On August 21, 2017, tens of thousands of people gathered together at the Adler Planetarium and braved (mostly) cloudy skies to catch a glimpse of a partial solar eclipse. It was the culmination of three years of effort to educate, empower, and encourage citizens of Chicago and the surrounding suburbs to look up as the Moon crossed the face of the Sun. In this paper, we will outline the elements of the Adler's plans to get as many people as possible in the Chicagoland area equipped to eclipse.
