Abstract: Remote visualisation techniques are required for the very large radio astronomy images created by the latest generation of telescopes. In this paper we present the approach we have developed to increase the efficiency of such tools using tiled rendering with multi-tiered data caching and GPU-accelerated image rendering. In this approach, the browser-based client is responsible for image rendering, compositing and overlaying of WCS information, leaving the backend server-side component to focus on data delivery and data analysis, for which full-precision data is required. This has led to significant performance improvements over the approaches used previously.
