Abstract: A growing number of practitioners and researchers are calling for a paradigm shift to center the goals of inclusion and equity in all types of science communication. While broadening participation has long been a focus of informal science education, much of this public engagement is grounded in inequitable and exclusive assumptions. Those who have prioritized inclusion have largely been operating within disciplinary silos, slowing the pace of change and stifling the shared learning that is needed. In this keynote, Dr. Menezes will share findings and recommendations from a new report about the landscape of inclusive science communication that summarizes the insights of leaders across a wide variety of disciplines, sectors, and public engagement practices. Following the presentation, we will discuss the possibilities of inclusive public engagement for ASP attendees.
