Abstract: Brazil has low levels of school performance, especially in Natural Sciences. One of the problems that aggravate this question is the low flexibility of the methodologies used to teach Science, which do not prioritize the student's protagonism. This issue affects different contents and is more notable in those that are not traditionally studied in-depth, such as Kepler's Laws. They were developed by the astronomer Johannes Kepler in the 17th century and revolutionized the way we understand the movement of planets around the Sun. Despite such importance, often the revolutionary and innovative construction of knowledge proposed by Kepler is not presented. To overcome this problem, this work proposed teaching Kepler's Third Law through an active methodology. In it, students should deduce the concepts on their own from the same information that Kepler had, that is, the planet period of translation and their respective distances from the Sun. To assess the effectiveness of this approach, two groups with similar profiles were evaluated; in one of them the dynamic activity was applied while in the other the topics were presented through exposition. The comparison between the performance of the two classes showed that the active methodology had little impact on the general learning of the class, but it was very effective in improving the performance of students with more difficulties. This result indicates that diversifying learning methods can have positive impacts on students who would otherwise not learn, while not harming others. As a secondary product, this work showed how astronomical concepts can be used to help teaching about process of Science.
