Abstract: Despite the considerable impact of light pollution on observational astronomy, nocturnal animals, and energy consumption, its inclusion in formal education has been largely neglected. This raises the crucial question of integrating dark sky education into science learning. This presentation emphasizes the interdisciplinary project “ASTROx” and its student-led social innovation team, known as “The Starlight Squad.” Their primary focus is on dark-sky advocacy and science communication. By actively addressing real-life issues within the community, the project aims to increase awareness about urban light pollution and its consequences. The students have implemented a range of interdisciplinary methods and experiential activities, including outdoor classrooms, design thinking lessons, and hands-on experiences. These approaches effectively communicate the significance of preserving our night skies and the importance of combating light pollution.
