Abstract: |
This is a summary of the NRAO National and International Non-traditional
Exchange (NINE) project carried out in conjunction with the University of Belize and
Alpha-Cen astronomy consortium. We aim to use data from the NRAO VLA Sky Survey (VLASS) that are made publicly available by the observatory to the astronomical
community. We obtain VLASS images with Python code via the Google Colab platform and NRAO archive. We outline plans to implement these exercises in our physics
courses in the department, and with students in the Physics and Mathematics Club. Our
workshops with students in Belize and through the Astrophysics for Central America
and the Caribbean (Alpha-Cen) consortium will help disseminate astronomy, data science methodologies, and coding practices. |
