Abstract: At the James Clerk Maxwell Telescope, an automated data reduction pipeline runs daily to generate processed images and data cubes for our Science Archive. When problems inevitably arise with raw data, we have customarily had two options: to modify the raw files or to expand the data reduction software to deal with the issue. As both of these approaches can be unsatisfactory, we have recently developed a third option: a preprocessing pipeline. The new pipeline, ‘Wesley,’ is a special mode of ORAC-DR and a counterpart to the post-processing pipeline PICARD. We present the preprocessing pipeline and how it integrates with the rest of the JCMT Science Archive software.
