Abstract: The micrometeoroid (MM) environment at L2 will degrade the optical performance of the Habitable Worlds Observatory (HWO) by producing stray-light which will enter the coronagraph’s optical path and decrease the science performance of the mission over time. Therefore, the prediction of this performance degradation due to MM induced damage (MMID) is necessary to predict the optical degradation and subsequent stray-light for notional HWO architectures. A review of the literature shows that the current state of MMID modeling is inadequate for this purpose. We provide an overview of key damage equations used to predict MMID and utilize these models to analyze the growth of stray-light over time for a notional HWO architecture and pointing.
