| Abstract: |
The Habitable Worlds Observatory (HWO) is NASA's current New Great Observatory concept. HWO will observe the universe with unprecedented instrument stability and detector performance to search for life elsewhere. Currently, no single detector technology can meet HWO's diverse and demanding specifications. However, complementary metal-oxide-semiconductor (CMOS) single-photon counting detectors (SPCDs) already meet some of HWO's Technology Readiness Level (TRL) 5 specifications and are excellent candidates for further development. This paper provides an overview of CMOS SPCDs and characterization results by the Center for Detectors (CfD) at RIT. |
