Abstract: We have collected the optical upper limits available for all GRBs without OT detection, expanding on the work of Fynbo et al. (2001). We attempt to extract information about the parent lightcurve distribution from this body of data by means of a simple population model. The simulations demonstrate that there must be either significantly fainter OTs than currently known or also completely dark bursts. With observational pursuits developing quickly, large telescopes can soon be expected to probe the presently unexplored part of the lightcurve diagrams (R > 23, Δt < 0.1d) relevant to the question whether truly dark bursts exist.
