Abstract: We demonstrate the emergence of magnetic U-loops which causes flux cancellation at the photosphere by using a 3D MHD simulation of emerging magnetic loops. The approach presented here is fully self-consistent in that the simulation domain extends from the subphotosphere to the corona so that the loops naturally evolve through the photosphere. The simulation shows that the dense material accumulated at the dipped portion of the U-loop is drained out by a diverging flow, which increases the buoyancy of the loop and helps the dip emerge into the photosphere. We also present a formula to estimate cancelling flux, which is used to distinguish the emergence of U-loops from other mechanisms for flux cancellation. The formula is based on the detailed information about photospheric magnetic field and flow, which will be provided by the upcoming Solar-B mission.
