Abstract: We present a study of the spectral energy distributions (SEDs) of submillimeter detected Galaxies (SMGs) and NIR selected high-z Balmer break galaxies (BBGs). Our evolutionary dusty SED model allows us to investigate intrinsic properties of starbursts, such as the starburst age and the mean stellar metalicity, as it takes into account the chemical evolution. It argues that SMGs are the progenitors of present-day elliptical galaxies. We will also discuss the connection between SMGs and BBGs.
