		| Abstract: | This paper describes the design principles of the Decaspec, a motorized optical-fiber manipulator intended to reroute light from the focal plane of the McGraw-Hill 2.4 m telescope to the long-slit Mark III spectrograph, using 0.5-m-long fibers running between the focal plane and the spectrograph slit. The Decaspec will be used in a collaborative redshift survey undertaken by the Harvard-Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics and Dartmouth College. A diagram of the Decaspec mounted on the telescope is presented. |
