Abstract: This paper discusses problems in the determination of astrophysical parameters of early-type stars using photometry. The technique of astronomical photometry is summarized, and error sources in the reduction process are examined. The calibration of the photometric measurements in terms of two astrophysically interesting parameters, effective temperature and luminosity, is examined in detail, because it is a crucial and uncertain step in the process. Effects of other intrinsic stellar properties such as unresolved duplicity and rotation are discussed.
