Abstract: Models of the galaxy number counts and color distribution in SA 68 (Koo 1986) built according to a non-negative least squares (NNLS) algorithm (Lawson and Hanson 1974) are discussed. The value of chi(red) squared that characterizes each model can be used as a goodness of fit indicator to decide in favor of a model over another, providing an objective and unbiased criterion to extract cosmological and evolutionary parameters from a data set.
