Abstract: The local radio luminosity function is presented, along with separate luminosity functions for radio sources powered by the starbursts and monsters usually found in spiral and elliptical galaxies, respectively. The starburst radio luminosity function may also be derived from the far-infrared luminosity function and the tight far-infrared-radio luminosity correlation. A starburst population-synthesis model can account for this correlation quantitatively. Spiral galaxies appear to evolve on cosmological time scales and may account for nearly half of the T about 0.1 K source background at nu = 1.4 GHz.
