Abstract: We are carrying out spectral synthesis modeling for one thousand stars on the Lick, Keck and AAT planet search projects. Our analysis of the first five hundred stars confirms the metal-rich nature of stars with detected extrasolar planets. Of particular interest is the underlying mechanism for this metallicity correlation. We cannot identify any attributes of our data that provide evidence for enrichment of the convective zone by accretion as the primary source for the observed metallicity correlation. Specifically, we do not see a functional dependence of metallicity on convective zone depth in main sequence stars or the expected decrease in metallicity among planet-bearing subgiants with diluted convective zones.
