Abstract: We use time-dependent photoionization modeling to constrain the distance (R) to the outflow from the continuum source in Mrk 509. The very small variations in trough ionic column densities (mostly consistent with no change) between the 2001 HST/STIS and 2009 HST/COS epochs allow us to put a lower limit on R between 100–200 pc for most of the UV absorption components.
