Abstract: We present the results of our comprehensive end-to-end study of the elements in the optical metrology system for LISA/NGO. During this study we characterised our new, Zerodur based heterodyne interferometer to measure its performance and determine noise sources. In this context we also measured the responsivity of quadrant diodes, as deviations result in measurement errors and we improved the performance of our phasemeter by implementing an aliased pilot-tone, reducing phase noise risen by aperture jitter.
