Abstract: Theoretical stellar astrophysics is poised on the edge of a dramatic transition. The last 50 years of the field has seen incremental refinement of the ground-breaking work of luminaries like Erika Böhm-Vittense. Recently, however, advances in computing have allowed the direct simulation of plasma dynamics in stellar interiors, elucidating physical processes that are not captured in the standard formulation of stellar evolution. Observations are essential both for identifying the shortcoming of the standard model and testing the incorporation of more complete physics into stellar models. Interferometry can provide tests of stellar models with unprecedented precision and in the near future may even be extended beyond the deaths of stars.
