Abstract: What if astronomy communicators could make audience thinking visible during outreach events, and how could this knowledge be used to improve outreach events in the moment? That was the question at the heart of the NSF-funded "On The Spot Feedback" Project, a collaboration between the Astronomical Society of the Pacific, the Institute for Learning Innovation, Oregon State University, and the National Radio Astronomy Observatory. In this interactive session, you'll try several kinds of tactics that reveal audience understanding and beliefs about astronomy - and you'll learn how to use this information to improve how you communicate astronomy with people of all ages and backgrounds.
