Abstract: We have conducted a search for the water-ice band at 3 μm in a sample of O-rich AGB stars which show silicate absorption features. We derived the dust mass-loss rates by fitting the energy distribution. We also calculated the gas mass-loss rate for these objects and found it to be ~10−4 M yr−1. Only about half of our sample shows evidence for water-ice absorption despite the very high mass-loss rate. The stars with water-ice show a steeper near-IR slope which might possibly be due to the presence of a disk.
