Abstract: This paper reports the detection of the optical counterpart of one of the most extraordinary X-ray sources so far discovered, Cygnus X-3, with the Gunn-Westphal (1981) camera on the Perkins 1.8-m telescope at the Lowell Observatory. Attention is given to the observations, reductions, and results of deep CCD imaging of the Cyg X-3 field which revealed the optical counterpart of Cyg X-3at using a wide R-band filter.
