Abstract: |
Mercury is the least-explored planet except for Pluto. The Mariner 10 mission yielded much information about the planet, but raised new questions. Groundbased observations of the polar craters and atmosphere have also raised new questions. The messenger mission will address many of these, but in order to maximize the return from this mission, a program of laboratory, observational, and theoretical research on Mercury should be maintained. Some thought should also be given to follow-on Mercury missions, in particular, a lander. |
