Abstract: Over the past few years, both the theoretical underpinnings and observational evidence for a disk of comets and larger bodies beyond the orbit of Neptune have become one of the most rapidly developing areas of planetary science. This new element of the inventory of the Solar System is arguably as important and fundamental an architectural element as the asteroid belt and the Oort Cloud. This review summarizes the historical development and current status of Kuiper Disk modelling and observations, and then goes on to describe some important open questions about the Kuiper Disk that require further investigation.
